8:31 a.m. - 2008-02-25 Came to work feeling fine on a MONDAY MORNING. Sometimes you catch the wave just right and it sweeps you from an early Friday afternoon all the way to Monday morning without dumping your ass in the ocean. Other than a few spats with the wife over nothing, it was a productive, fun and even uplifting weekend. Got a ride home Friday with a friend and had an early cocktail. Convinced the son to clear the yard of all the limbs that we had trimmed from the trees and transformed the yard back to it's glory. Saturday the wife's sister and family stopped by for a quick visit as they passed through town. I took the truck battery in and had it checked. I was not expecting this to be the problem as it was just over two years old, but it had crapped out so I was able to obtain a new one for less than $10. Save your receipts, folks. Strapped the new battery in and the truck ran like a spotted ass ape. I am no longer reliant on the kindness of strangers. At least for transportation. When the sun went down we went out for a catfish dinner at a local fish house. Met an ex co-worker that I had not seen in about two years. Got a big hug from her before I could introduce the wife and son who were standing beside me. Short awkward silent moment passes before I can make introductions. The food was fantastic and filling, which played well for the following act. We dropped the son off at the home and left for a birthday party of an acquaintance. He was celebrating his 39th with an 80's themed party. Girls showed up in leg warmers and leotards, guys in tight rolled jeans, all with twitchy muscles and a few grinding their teeth. We hit the kegs before a Gary Newm@n tribute band kicked off a set in the living room complete with strobe lights and glitter ball. Was introduced briefly to one of Doug Sahm's sons. Helped a friend find a dropped box of bars. Swayed to the music while the wife got her groove on the dance floor with one of her girlfriends. Made it home just before two in the morning and still did not feel like shit the next day. Although I was moving slow until the afternoon. Sunday we made a big ham dinner and watched the Oscar's. I was even able to have two glasses of wine with the meal and enjoy them. For the record, the wife and I were the oldest guests at the party. One guy, with eyeliner and earrings, said "This is great! It's an 80's party........AND I WAS BORN IN THE EIGHTIES!!" The wife and I looked at each other and busted out laughing. It's not the age of the body, it's the content of the mind.
