12:43 p.m. - 2008-03-11 We should have stayed home as the wind was relentless and temps dropped into the 30's during the night. We did have a nice fish fry with the store bought catfish we brought along and the coffee did smell and taste great. Another bring down was the burn ban in effect because of the high winds. A camp is only half itself with out a fire. We managed by placing the coleman stove and a single burner propane stove on the ground by our feet and making do. After the son had exited for the tent and a warm sleeping bag I noticed a group of late arriving campers setting up across the cove. Son of a gun if they did not start a large fire. I never saw anyone tell them to douse it. Alone by the stove, I gazed at the stars for a while marking the constellations I knew. Turned the shortwave on and listened to random stations as I sipped a few beers and checked the lines that were baited out. Finally the cold got to me and I slid into my own sleeping bag. We had provisions for a full breakfast the next morning but it was still colder than a well diggers ass so we ate granola bars and drank Carnation instant breakfast and hot coffee as we broke camp and headed home. We will be back when it warms up some more. The son is a game addict and a cleaver go-getter. Our computer is in the shop so he talks a friend (who is grounded from his computer) into renting out his computer to son. Five bucks for a weeks worth of use. Funny because the computer store called late yesterday telling me our computer is ready to be picked up. Maybe he will network them. I feel tired and I blame daylight savings, but I do love the extra hour of daylight when I get home.
