Good Better Best

Two kittens have returned to the backyard. We were returning home from seeing Josh Blue at the stand up comedy place about 1:30 in the morning. I was feeling god like and decided that this was the perfect time to water the yard. I was hosing down the parched earth when one of the kittens walked out from under the truck. I took her in to the wife, who tears up and grabs the kitten from me and procedes to dance around the room, spinning the kitty. I walked back outside and see the momma cat with another kitten following her.

The other two kittens are still MIA, but both of the returning kittens looked well fed and watered. We are still not sure if they were lost in the woods or if they escaped from someone's house. The wife had picked two kittens to keep. The one's who returned were not those two. I think she is going to keep both of these kittens any way. I just don't see her giving them up again.

I had a great father's Day. As noted, we went to see Josh Blue's comedy show. He was on Last Comic Standing 3 or 4 years ago. He has Cerable Palsy and had done a great job of overcoming the disease. The show was funny as hell.

Sunday I lounged around the house, leaving the beloved air conditioning only long enough to grab a book and read a few chapters in the hammock in the backyard before falling asleep. I woke up baking in the 100 degree heat. I abandoned the hammock and returned to the AC. I ventured out later and made my way to the video store to rent Casino Royale, the James Bond flick I missed at the theaters. I also picked up a documentary on the business of war (Beware the military-industrial complex).

So I watched James Bond while swilling vodka martinis with the cold AC blowing on me. When the son returned from work I was served a roast dinner with rosemary potatoes, fresh cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden and lots of sweet iced tea. The son gave me a card with a wonderful comment in his own hand and the daughter gave me a framed letter listing the reasons she was glad I am her father. I had to step away from the table for a moment. Something was in my eye.

It was the best Father's Day I've had.
